The big question for investors is whether to buy the new economy story, or stick with funds which hold some or all of these companies for perfectly good traditional investment reasons as part of a wider portfolio. There is an investment bandwagon building up on the back of the information technology revolution, but it is not necessarily the case that the new breed of technology, internet, telecommunications or Wired index funds are the best way to profit from that revolution. There is a whiff of marketing gimmickry about these funds that is a little off-putting.
